Mini Bike Happenings

A friend in Grover Beach sent me this email because she would like something akin to the Bike Happening in the South County.

Hey All!!
“Coffee Cruisers” Bicycle Ride to Dinosaur Caves “Art in the Park”, Shell Beach this Sunday!! Sept.3rd 2006
Meet at Mongo’s in Grover Beach as late as 10am OR earlier for a Pineapple Matte or Café Latte!!
Mongo’s loves bicycle riders and has a gated area to put the bikes AND big comfy couches to sit on inside!!
For more info call Shannon 748-6115

There is always music amongst the trees in the garden,
But our hearts must be very quiet to hear it…

Wouldn’t it be cool if every city had a bike happening of its own?!

Thanks for the invite! I saw it too late though. I really dig the day ride. I can get my son out riding too! When’s the next Coffee Cruise?
We’d love to join you, Becky and Kyeran

I’m sure Shannon would love to make the ride to Dinosaur Caves a regular thing epecially as long as “Art in the Park” is going on.

Leave a comment here if you are interested and we can forward your email to her.

Paso Robles is organizing a bike happening, to occur Wednesday, October 4, 8:00 pm, meet downtown at or outside the Crooked Kilt across from the park on Pine Street. We have a pleasant route planned out, and hope to get our North County bike on regularly. Ya’ll have any suggestions for a first-time event? We’re trying to interest the Santa Margarita Tall Bike Posse in showing up, but I hear Bill thinks Paso is too far away from Margarita.

    1. Pick a route that is flat and effortless. Add atleast one feature to the route that allows the crowd to regroup. We use a swarm. You could also have a lemonade table, a photo booth, whatever it takes.

    2. Take an uncooridianted fat chick, and a retarded Kid. Put them on bikes and try to ride the route as a group. Take notice of difficulties, and act accordingly. Ride at the same weekday and time of night/day as the happening.

    3. Hang fliers: gyms, coffeeshops, events, pass them out at bars & parties

    4. Market it as ‘fun,’ not ‘political.’

    5. Promise gimmick: free water balloons, mud wrestling pit, bike sumo, photos, free/cheap beer, cookies, strippers, ect.

    6. Encourage riders to not make asses of themselves. Do not associate with people who like to block traffic or do other stupid shit. They multiply rapidly when tolerated.

    7. Encourage the use of bells, horns and lights. (and flags! i think flags are cool. Big hats too.)
