Due to a hardware failure, we’ve lost all posts since April 11. Stupid heat wave cooked our hard disks. We’re sorry for sucking, we’ll do our best to stop ASAP.

You think a fun ride through downtown is cool, how about a full blown bike race around downtown and through the mission plaza! It’s like the Tour de California but better, especially since it last for way more then 15 minutes.

The famous HopeDance Bike FiLM Festival, part of Bike Month, is going to be held on May 18 and 19th, 2007.
HopeDance is looking for spectacular bike-themed short films to show for the Friday night (May 18) screening of the winning entries (and with Beer!).
The short films should be original, short, 10 minutes or less and bike themed as in yay-bikes, or a very strong cars-suck message. We’re not looking for art here, just good old propaganda that will move the audience to go home and set fire to their SUVs. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 20, 2007.
(bike happening encourages you to submit “art” films to FiLM fest & BikeSHIFT)
Call 544-9663 for details of how to submit short films.
1st prize: $150 cash (which may go up as the deadline nears).
2nd prize: $50 gift certificate to Bike Works
3rd prize: $20 gift certificate to ARTerty..
Saturday‘s Films (May 19) will feature “Contested Streets” and “PEDAL”
ALSO:
BikeSHIFT:
A bike themed art show promoting an awareness of bicycles in all of their shapes, sizes and interpretations.
Art-bikes and other media welcome. Submissions to the show are being accepted through April 22.
Come to the artists reception for live music and more.
Friday May 4th from 5-9 pm
848 Monterey (Old Pier One Building)

Thanx to all you Happeners who brought boom boxes to the Happening. If you couldn’t tune into Happening Radio, it’s not your fault.
The engineers experienced technical difficulties, and the signal was too weak to be received by most radios. They tried something new and something went wrong.
But save your batteries for next month. Happening Radio has rocked us recently, it WILL be back like a movie star governor.
Actually, buy new batteries. They’re not likely to last for 2 ‘bike nights.’
This message has been brought to you by Dollar Store Batteries, the best batteries you can shuck for a buck.

If the Bike Happening is to survive a different attitude towards personal responsibilities and group self-policing must take hold.
In the six plus years that the BH has existed there have been a few people that have made significant contributions towards keeping this ride alive. They have attempted to keep this ride lawful and enjoyable. Announcements have been made, flyers and bike lights have been passed out, and attempts have been made on the ride to remind everyone of the SLOPD’s simple requests. They have arranged where the ride would end and cleaned up afterwards. Now that the ride consistently draws out 300 to 500 people those who have been carrying the torch feel more like den mothers then happy participants. THIS MUST CHANGE.
The Bike Happening is all about having fun and having a positive impact on our community. Now is the time for YOU to step up and help make that happen. YOU can start by doing the following:
When you see someone riding unlawfully you need to help inform that person what they are doing wrong.
If you see someone littering you need to help that person see how they are jeopardizing this event.
If you see anything left behind, you need to not walk away thinking someone else will clean up.
If you are not willing to do things like this, then you are no longer welcome on this ride.

We will no longer end our ride at Wally’s Bicycle Works.
Please stay tuned to see what this means…
Hobo Theme is still ON
